Martin elected President-Elect of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine

Ian B.K. Martin, M.D., M.B.A., professor and chair of the Department Emergency Medicine and professor in the Department of Medicine, was recently elected President-Elect of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM)—the premier organization representing the researchers and educators in Emergency Medicine. He will soon complete a one-year term as Secretary-Treasurer of the Society.

Dr. Martin has devoted his academic career to improving the delivery of emergency care internationally—with emphasis on East Africa—through program development, investigative research, and direct clinical care. Dr. Martin’s research interests include optimal models for Emergency Department-based HIV and hepatitis C testing, host-response to acute infections, and acute care disease burden epidemiology. His research and other Global Health-related initiatives have culminated in a host of publications in peer-reviewed journals and invited presentations at prestigious national and international meetings. Dr. Martin has garnered grant support for his research from federal and state agencies, industry, and academic institutions.

The Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) is dedicated to the improvement of care of the acutely ill and injured patient by improving research and education. To achieve this mission, SAEM influences health policy through forums, publications, inter-organizational collaboration, policy development, and consultation services for physicians, teachers, researchers, and students.
