Microsoft 365 migration planned throughout the fall semester

HSC ITS will work with your department to schedule a brief Microsoft 365 outage in the coming weeks.

At some point in the coming weeks and months, your team’s access to Microsoft 365 services will be unavailable for a few hours at a specified date and time. This work, which will begin Monday, August 29 and continue through the fall, will affect access to Outlook email, Calendar, Teams and SharePoint. The outage dates will be determined by HSC ITS and department chairs as part of an important system migration project. You will receive plenty of notice so you can prepare for the scheduled disruption.

WVU ITS and HSC ITS are working together to rebuild a tool called Active Directory (AD), which determines what resources faculty and staff can access based on their roles at the University. This project will give HSC more independence on system changes and updates. Generally, these changes will occur behind the scenes and with no disruption to your productivity, such as the recent SOLE migration. However, you will be notified in advance of any work that is likely to result in either an outage or a change in the way you use technology.

With Microsoft 365, the main change you will see is where you log in when using Outlook Web Access. Instead of using office365.hsc.wvu.edu, you will log in at office.com after your department is migrated to the new system. If you launch Outlook from the client installed on your computer, rather than the web app, you won’t see any changes.

The Microsoft 365 process will happen in phases. Phase II will begin after the Microsoft 365 migration is complete and involves moving all computer devices to the new Active Directory. Watch for more information about that in the coming weeks.
