Morgantown Happenings - February 4, 2020

Friday, February 7 is National Wear Red Day for American Heart Month. We will be taking a group photo at the Pylons on Thursday, February 6 at noon. We thought it would be cool to get as many professions as possible in the HSC involved and fill the Pylons area up with professional students wearing red!

The WVU Internal Medicine Interest Group (IMIG), in coordination with ACP (American College of Physicians) and SGIM (Society of General Internal Medicine), will be hosting "#ProudToBeGIM" week on Tuesday February 25th at 12 PM-1 PM. The goal of this day is to enhance the knowledge and interest of internal medicine to our students. Please join us for an hour of fun, food, giveaways, and prizes as we celebrate Proud to be GIM week. Stay tuned for more information to come.

The WVU Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society will be hosting Solidarity Week for Compassionate Patient Care from February 10th - 14th. We will be having guest lectures and panelists throughout the week, open to all persons at HSC and Ruby Memorial Hospital. The schedule is outlined below:

Monday Feb 10th- Humanism Through Advocacy with Dr. Costello

Wednesday Feb 12th - Finding Humanism in Radiology with Dr. Hogg

Thursday Feb 13th - Panel on Compassionate Leadership featuring Dr. Hazard, Dr. Charlton, Dr.   Hayanga, Dr. Hurst

Friday Feb 14th - Screening of Breathe, Nolan, Breathe followed by discussion with Dr. Dower

All lectures will take place from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in room 1901 (Fukushima auditorium). Lunch will be provided to the first 50 people each day.

All women in MS1 and MS2 are invited to attend a meeting to assess interest in forming a club/group in which women medical students can support one another, share family and career stories and interact with women faculty who will also provide support and share family and career stories. The first meeting is on February 20, 2020 at 12:15pm in John Jones C in the HSC.

ULTRAFEST Saturday, March 28 from 8-3pm. Form a team of 3 to compete in an ultrasound competition with prizes.

MAY COMMENCEMENT DATE UPDATES. Graduation Application is due March 6th! You can find instructions to apply at the Registrar’s Webpage. The May 2020 Graduation Ceremony will be Friday, May 15 @7pm in the Creative Arts Center.  A reception will immediately follow at the Erickson Alumni Center.

GQ Week will be February 24-28th. Watch for emails from AAMC to complete this important survey. Bring in proof of completion during GQ Week to be entered into a daily drawing!

The WVU Department of Family Medicine is pleased to announce that the applications for its innovative Rural Scholars Program are now available. This program is designed for students committed to making rural/small town Family Medicine in West Virginia a career. Qualified MS III’s are eligible for a $10,000 stipend for their fourth year and facilitated admission to WVU’s Morgantown Family Medicine Residency. The Rural Scholars Program allows for an enhanced primary care experience in the 4th year curriculum as well as early integration into the residency experience. White Coat Ceremony will be Saturday, March 21st at the Creative Arts Center beginning at 3pm with a reception to follow at Erickson Alumni Center.
