Career Planning and Advising Sessions with Dr. Hashmi

All MS4 students should take advantage of the Career Planning and Advising Sessions provided by Dr. Hashmi on Wednesdays and Thursdays in Medical Education to optimize your Residency application with reviews of your CV's, personal statements, and Residency Program selections. The goal is help you best position yourself to obtain the Residency Program of your choice. Email mhashmi@hsc.wvu.edu for an appointment.

💵 Financial Aid One-on-One Appointments for MS4s 💵

Each year, graduating MD students are asked about their experience with financial aid, billing, and debt counseling services as part of the LCME Graduate Questionnaire. We've heard that feedback, and we're acting on it: the WVU Hub is launching a new, more accessible way to connect with our office, so support is easier to find and use no matter where you are in the program.

We’re pleased to introduce the HSC Student Advocates. A team within the WVU Hub formed specifically to support MD program students with financial aid, billing, and student loan questions.

Starting Oct. 14, the HSC Student Advocates will be on-site at the Health Sciences Center every Wednesday, offering:

• One-on-one appointments, 10:00 AM–12:00 PM and 1:00–4:00 PM — financial aid questions, loan counseling, repayment strategy, and more

• A drop-in group session at noon — more info on that to follow

Fourth-year students: you're getting first access. Appointment sign-ups open to you starting Oct. 14 through Sign Up Genius (see below). If spots remain open, sign-ups will open to all MD students on Sep. 29.

This is an especially good year to have this conversation, with recent changes to federal student loan repayment options. The HSC Student Advocates can walk you through what's changed and what it means for you specifically.

WVU Morgantown Pediatrics Residency Rural Scholars Program Accepting Applications

If you hope to complete your pediatrics residency at WVU in Morgantown, consider applying to the Pediatrics Residency Rural Scholars Program. If you are chosen to be a Pediatrics Residency Rural Scholar, the benefits include:

• $10,000 stipend applied to your Year 3 or 4 tuition

• Guaranteed acceptance into the WVU Pediatrics Residency Program in Morgantown

• Your creation and implementation of a rural scholars project of your choice with expert supervision

• No need to register for the NRMP Match, no need to apply to any other programs, and no need to complete at least 10 interviews or have a back-up plan in the Match

• Priceless peace of mind from knowing you have matched at your number 1 choice by as early as December of your MS3!

Submission Guidelines:

1st Cycle: Your application, two faculty letters of recommendation, medical school transcript, USMLE transcript, medical school performance evaluation, and curriculum vitae must be received by November 1, 2026. Awards will be made in December 2026.

If there remain unfilled Rural Scholar Positions after the 1st Cycle, a 2nd Cycle may be offered as below:

2nd Cycle: Your application materials as listed for the 1st Cycle must be received by January 31, 2027. Awards will be made in March 2027.
