New gift program established as part of Service Awards

On Jan. 1, 2020, West Virginia University Health System will launch a system-wide Service Award Gift Program, as a part of the annual Celebration of Service Awards.

The Service Awards recognize employees for service milestones in five-year increments (five, 10, 15, 20, 25, etc.).

An employee yearbook feature will become part of the new program. Managers and peers will be given the opportunity to provide comments and upload photos and videos for those employees celebrating a milestone year of service. The employee will then receive the electronic yearbook on their service anniversary date.

Employees will now have the opportunity to select their gifts on their date of service anniversary . They will receive an automated email with a personalized login and password, as well as the website link. Each milestone year will have 30 unique gifts to choose from. Once selected, gifts will be mailed directly to the employees’ homes. If no gift is selected within 90 days, a default gift will be mailed to the home address on file.

Those employees who hit a milestone year in 2019 will receive an email with the award website link to select their gift in January 2020. Because the new program starts in 2020, employees celebrating service milestones in 2019 will not receive yearbooks.

Although the gift portion of the service celebration will be system-wide, each system hospital will also have the opportunity to celebrate their employees in other ways at their facility.

The J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital celebration of service event will now be held in the spring and recogniize employees who have reached a 10+ year milestone from the previous year. Employees that reached a milestone year in 2019 will be recognized at the 2020 event, which will held on April 16, 2020, at the Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place. Employees can expect to receive their banquet invitations in early 2020.

Employees will also notice a policy change. Starting in 2020 all employees, regardless of status, will be eligible for service awards. Employees can view their Service Award Date in UltiPro under "Myself."
