New incident reporting system launches

WVU Medicine has adopted a new incident reporting system, which debuted Dec. 18.

Event Management System (EMS) is an online tool to manage patient incidents, complaints, and claims, as well as provider peer reviews and employee injuries. It offers unique options, such as reporting of patient events directly from the medical record, a variety of administrative dashboards, and an unlimited number of reports that can be scheduled to run automatically and forwarded via email.

The information collected helps WVU Medicine identify unsafe situations and address safety concerns.

EMS replaces Patient Safety Net (PSN). A PSN portal will remain online indefinitely to preserve important data but reports should be made through the EMS system starting Dec. 18.

Note to managers and directors: Click on this test link if you want to familiarize yourself with the EMS system before Dec. 18.
