New online tool will foster professional development for nurses, and respiratory and physical therapists

Clinical staff throughout WVU Medicine will have access to more than 1,700 evidence-based step-by-step procedures as the organization has purchased Lippincott® Solutions, a suite of clinical decision support tools and continuing education courses from Wolters Kluwer, an information services company.

The tool, available July 29, will help foster professional development and make daily work flows easier. It includes skills checklists and competency exams, along with demonstration videos and images to review. All are accessible from any computer, through Epic, or mobile device. A link to the tool will be available in the CONNECT footer, under "Our Patients," on or before July 29.

Using Lippincott® Solutions can help staff who may be asked to manage or assist in a procedure that is new to them, or something they haven’t practiced in a while. The tool is a reliable resource to research and review the procedure first. There are specific areas for nursing, respiratory therapy, and physical therapy.

“We’re excited about the scope and quality of information available through this tool,” Lya M. Cartwright-Stroupe DNP, APRN, CPNP, NEA-BC, manager of nursing research and professional development, and leader of the Lippincott® Solutions implementation team, said. “It’s an investment in our staff, system-wide, and we think it will positively affect patient outcomes. Nursing will use this up-to-date product to guide policy and procedures.”

A Lippincott® Solutions champion has been designated at each system facility. Those champions will facilitate training and education.
