NFL CMO to visit WVU campus
National Football League Chief Medical Officer Allen Sills, M.D., FACS, will visit West Virginia University's campus on Friday, May 3, as part of the RNI's ongoing work with the NFL. All are invited to attend Dr. Sills' presentation during Friday's grand rounds co-hosted by the RNI and WVU Sports Medicine.
The presentation will be at 8 a.m. on Friday, May 3, in Okey Patteson Auditorium (Health Sciences Center North 1175). During his visit, Sills will also meet with WVU Athletics administrators and sports medicine faculty and fellows as part of the NFL/NCAA collaborative.
Sills has served as the NFL CMO since 2017, collaborating closely with medical staff from teams across the league, as well as the NFL Players Association and its advisors. He also works closely with the many medical and scientific experts who comprise the NFL's medical committees, including Javier Cárdenas, M.D., from the Department of Neurology.
In this role, Sills orchestrates efforts with these experts to spearhead the league's initiatives aimed at advancing player safety both on and off the field. This includes advocating for rule changes, enhancing equipment and implementing comprehensive injury reduction strategies.
