Occupational Therapy Faculty Earns Seating and Mobility Certification

Richelle L. Gray OTD, OTR/L, ATP/SMS, CDP, Assistant Professor, in the West Virginia University Division of Occupational Therapy, has earned the Seating and Mobility Specialist (SMS) Certification by the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA).

According to RESNA, the Seating and Mobility Specialist Certification is an advanced certification for professionals who have dedicated their practices to seating and mobility. Every professional is required to have an Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certification in good standing. ATP/SMS Professionals exhibit extensive experience in direct, in-person consumer service in seating and mobility and have documented leadership initiatives in their industry. To achieve the credential, ATP/SMS professionals must pass the SMS certification exam.

Dr. Gray is the first occupational therapist in West Virginia to earn the ATP/SMS credential. She provides seating and mobility evaluations to children and adults in our multidisciplinary clinic.
