Open enrollment for 2020 benefits underway through Nov. 12

WVU Medicine announced in May that WVU Medicine and The Health Plan are coming together to form a fully integrated healthcare delivery and financing system. As this integration progresses, several of the changes for 2020 will align the WVU Medicine benefit programs with The Health Plan.

Information for 2020 open enrollment was mailed to the homes of non-union and union employees the week of Oct. 14. Open enrollment runs from Oct. 30 through Nov. 12.

What’s New for 2020:

Medical Plan Changes

  • Effective Jan. 1, 2020, the 90 percent Blue PPO medical plan will be administered by The Health Plan. The 80 percent Gold PPO medical plan and the Mountaineer HDHP will continue to be administered by Highmark.
  • The Emergency Room copay for the 90 percent Blue PPO medical plan will increase to $150 and the copay for the 80 percent Gold PPO medical plan will increase to $175.

Prescription Drug Changes

  • Prescription drug coverage for all medical plans will be administered by THP Rx (The Health Plan) beginning Jan. 1, 2020.

ID Cards

  • A new ID card will be issued by The Health Plan for employees who elect the 90 percent Blue PPO medical plan. This card will be used for both medical and prescription claims.
  • Employees who elect the 80 percent Gold PPO or Mountaineer HDHP medical plans will receive a new medical plan ID card from Highmark. In addition, you will receive an ID card from THP Rx to use to fill your prescriptions.

Other Benefits

  • Employee payroll contributions for the Basic and Enhanced dental plans are changing for Employee + Spouse and Employee + Child(ren) coverage levels only.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) annual contribution limits will increase to $3,550 for employee only coverage and $7,100 for all other coverage levels for 2020. The limits include the WVU Medicine employer contribution to your HSA.
  • The Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) annual limit will increase to $2,700 for 2020.

Members of Laborer’s Local 814

  • Effective Jan. 1, 2020, all medical plans for members of the Laborer’s Local 814 will be administered by The Health Plan.
  • Prescription drug coverage will also be administered by THP Rx (The Health Plan) beginning Jan. 1, 2020.
  • Employees who want to enroll in the Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for 2020 must complete enrollment in UltiPro between Oct. 30 and Nov. 12.
  • Benefits available during 2020 Open Enrollment are subject to change, as your 2020 benefits will be determined by the new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
