Program Coordinator joins George Washington Cancer Center Control Tap Steering Committee

Lauren Hixenbaugh, MBA recently joined the George Washington Cancer Center Cancer (GW) Control Tap (CCCAT) Steering Committee, which informs GW’s national comprehensive cancer control technical assistance program. In this role, Lauren participates with twelve representatives from CDC and other state cancer control coalitions.

Lauren is the Program Manager for Mountains of Hope, WV’s cancer coalition that includes over 200 public health professional from throughout the state, and is a Program Coordinator in WVUCI’s Cancer Prevention and Control. In addition to her work on the CCCAT Steering Committee, Lauren recently completed an 18-month Comprehensive Cancer Control Mentorship Program with GW where she was one of three cancer control professionals working to increase cancer screening rates.

A key component of Lauren’s mentorship opportunity was surveying WV health care providers and community members about barriers to lung cancer screening. As a result, she created an interactive map of WV lung cancer screening sites and a Providers Guide to Communicating About Lung Cancer.
