Unger named American Academy of Medical Acupuncture president
Kendra Unger, M.D., associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine, is the new president of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture.
According to the Academy’s website, the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture is the professional organization of allopathic and osteopathic physicians that advances the evidence-based integration of the practice of medicine and acupuncture to serve patients.
“My goals for leadership are to increase provider awareness of medical acupuncture as a treatment, enhance patient access to MA, continue to support scholarship and research in this area and to provide support to medical acupuncturists around the country,” she said.
Members are physicians trained in both modern medicine and acupuncture, giving them the ability to examine a problem, make a diagnosis, and offer treatment options from both modern medical and acupuncture perspectives.
Unger received her bachelor’s degree in both Pre-Med and Secondary Education from Concord University. She went on to complete her medical degree and residency at WVU, specializing in Family Medicine.
She is a Board-Certified Medical Acupuncturist and integrates this into her practice.
