Virtual farewell event set for Sept. 28 for Garrett Moran
Garrett Moran, PhD, MPA, MA, associate director of services and policy innovation at the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute and professor in the Department of Health Policy, Management and Leadership in the School of Public Health, will be leaving his position with West Virginia University effective Sept. 30.
Dr. Moran, who joined WVU as a faculty member in 2018, has focused intensively on addressing the addiction epidemic in West Virginia. Through leadership roles and consultation efforts over the course of a nearly 50-year professional career, his concern has been with understanding and guiding public policy related to mental and substance use disorders and health care integration. Notable roles have included serving as director of the psychology department at Weston State Hospital in the 1970s, as commissioner for behavioral health for DHHR in the 1990s, and as vice president of a research company that worked with federal health care agencies. He will continue to serve as principal investigator for the Academy for Integration of Behavioral and Primary Care, supported by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and as a member of the Governor’s Council on Substance Abuse and Prevention and Treatment. Dr. Moran’s 54-year connection to WVU began in 1967 when he participated in a summer honors program in Morgantown before his senior year at Burnsville High School. He went on to earn BA, MA and MPA degrees at WVU, and then a PhD in Public Administration with concentrations in policy analysis and research methods at American University in 1986. He has managed multiyear, multimillion-dollar studies and has served as a consultant on health issues for governments in the United States and abroad. Dr. Moran’s strong ties to Morgantown, appreciation and respect for the many outstanding colleagues he’s worked with, and dedication to West Virginia University provide assurance that he remains committed to contributing as he is able in this next phase of his life.
Please join us in recognizing Dr. Moran for his contributions and wishing him well in his next chapter. A virtual farewell event will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Sept. 28 via Zoom. Join the event.
