West Virginia Donor Day set for Aug. 1; employees encouraged to wear 'Give Life' T-shirts

In the United States, more than 100,000 people are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, including 3,000 in West Virginia and western Pennsylvania, according to the Center for Organ Recovery and Education. At least 20 of those people will die each day without receiving the transplant. And someone is added to the transplant waiting list every 10 minutes.

Think about those statistics – and think about how you can make a difference, because you can.

Monday, Aug. 1, is West Virginia Donor Day. This recognition day is being held to raise awareness – statewide – about the importance of organ, tissue, and cornea donation. Employees who purchased “Give Life” T-shirts are encouraged to wear them that day.

Consider this: A donor has the potential to save the lives of eight people through solid organ donation and can enhance the lives of up to 75 others through tissue donation.
