West Virginia RN Board issues scam alert

The West Virginia RN Board has been made aware that some licensees have received fraudulent communications from individuals claiming to be from its licensing board, or another agency, such as the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

The communications, often by phone, may threaten arrest or license suspension, demand personal information, or require the payment of fines. Please note: All initial board discipline correspondence is sent via certified mail and/or your nurse portal.

Phone calls may “spoof” the board's phone number and appear to be from a West VIrginia RN Board number.

Individuals who need to verify the identity of a board investigator may call 304-744-0900 or email the discipline department through your nurse portal. The Board will never demand that you provide personal information, such as Social Security number, date of birth, bank or credit card account numbers over the phone.

These type of licensing scams are a problem nationwide.
