WVU Cancer Institute makes latest Becker's list
The WVU Cancer Institute has been recognized by Becker's Hospital Review as one of “100 hospitals and health systems with great oncology programs” for 2018.
Becker’s has published a version of this list annually since 2012.
Its entry for the Cancer Institute is as follows:
"WVU Cancer Institute (Morgantown, W.Va.). WVU Cancer Institute, formerly known as the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, will double in size and physician talent in the coming years through a major expansion project. By 2020, the cancer institute will hire 38 new physicians across more than a dozen subspecialties, as well as 100 advanced practice providers, pharmacists, nurses and medical assistants. In 2017, the WVU Cancer Institute, a leader in cancer research, enrolled 9 percent of its 1,665 new patients in clinical trials, compared to the national average of 3 percent."
According to the publication, the hospitals and health systems selected for the list are, “at the forefront of cancer treatment and research. Many of the institutions featured have earned National Cancer Institute comprehensive cancer center designation and ranked among the top hospitals for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report and CareChex.”
Becker's said the list also includes, "cancer centers with busy research institutes, multiple clinical trials and safety designations that exceed national benchmarks. Hospitals and health systems highlighted here have invested in growing oncology departments and regional cancer centers, providing an important service to patients locally and nationally."
