WVU Medicine Children's enhances care with pediatric radiology specialist

WVU Medicine Children's has added a specialist who will be a crucial resource for the state and region.

Sabah Servaes, MD, will join the WVU Medicine radiology service line in the fall as the new vice chair of pediatric radiology and as a professor in the WVU Department of Radiology. The vice chair of pediatric radiology is a new position, created specifically to address the unique imaging needs of children of all ages. Dr. Servaes will fill a vital role for WVU Medicine Children’s immediately, and when the new hospital opens in 2021.

"We’ve built an exceptional team of adult and pediatric board-certified radiologists; Dr. Servaes is another quality addition to this team and will play a key role in the leadership of our pediatric radiologists," Mathis Frick, MD, chair of the Department of Radiology, said. "Together with advanced practice professionals, nurses, and technologists, we are able to provide comprehensive care to children all over the state and region."

Servaes joins WVU Medicine from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she was a pediatric radiologist and director of Body CT in the Department of Radiology. She was also fellowship and residency program director for the department.

She is board certified in diagnostic and pediatric radiology, and has been practicing for more than 22 years. She has clinical and research expertise in ovarian torsion, CT dose reduction, child abuse, and appendicitis.

She earned her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and was a surgery intern at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. She was a radiology resident at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York and a pediatric radiology fellow at Children’s Hospital in Boston.

Servaes is a member of the American Board of Radiology and serves on several committees for the organization. She is the 2019 winner of the American Board of Radiology’s Volunteer Service Award. She is also a member of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Physician Leadership Program and has been published and is a reviewer for numerous professional publications.
