Shepherds Cove, a new gated community in Shepherdstown, recently hosted a fundraising event and toy drive to benefit WVU Medicine Children’s. Over 150 new, unused toys were donated for children of all ages.

Shepherds Cove Developer Leonard Frenkil and Marketing Officer Sarah Britt visited Berkeley Medical Center to deliver toys, meet with staff and present a check for $2,680. “We are thrilled to be able to offer comfort and financial support to help care for the children of our community,” Britt said.

Children admitted to WVU Medicine Children’s NICU or Pediatrics Unit at Berkeley Medical Center will receive a toy to play with while in the hospital and take home after discharge. NICU Nursing Director Shawnee Brindle was very appreciative of the donation. “We are so fortunate that people in our community continue to reach out and support our local children,” Brindle said.

Over 60 people participated in the toy drive and fundraiser. In addition to Shepherds Cove, many community members contributed to the success of the event: Mary Llewellyn of Keller Williams Premier Realty; Carolyn Snyder of Snyder Bailey & Associates; Howard Kronthal of Exit Success Realty; Irene Hollida of Long & Foster; John Hobday of Hobday Customs Homes; Kim Wheatley of Greentree Realty; and Debbie Sagi of Prime lending.

“It was truly a team effort,” Frenkil said. “Shepherds Cove is honored to be a part of this community and is dedicated to contributing to efforts that make a difference in the lives of our residents.”
