WVU Medicine-WVU Hospitals within window for several Joint Commission surveys

WVU Medicine-WVU Hospitals can expect several Joint Commission and Office of Facility Licensure and Certification (OHFLAC) surveys in the upcoming months. Each accreditation survey will be unannounced but the institution is within a window of time in which the surveys could occur.

The expected surveys are as follows:

  • Joint Commission extension survey of Kidney Transplant Program (one clinical surveyor for one day)
  • Joint Commission extension survey at Fairmont Medical Center (one clinical surveyor and one building engineer for one day)
  • OHFLAC survey of Fairmont Medical Center (clinical surveyor/s once it has opened and possibly a building engineer)

Extension surveys from the Joint Commission occur when a hospital adds new sites or services.

The hospital can also expect to see an announced survey of its Ventricular Assist Device certification program. This survey will be announced seven days in advance. One surveyor will be on site for one and a half days.

Also as a reminder, WVU Medicine-WVU Hospitals is in the survey window for a full hospital and behavioral health survey. The survey window is 18 months after the last survey and has an end survey date of July 2021. Both Joint Commission and OHFLAC will survey patients through tracer activity to ensure the hospital delivers safe patient care by all team members.

If there are questions regarding the upcoming surveys, please contact Regulatory Coordinators Aaron Kocsis or Stephanie Kish.
