WVU School of Medicine and WVU Cancer Institute showcase blood cancer research at American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting
The West Virginia University School of Medicine and WVU Cancer Institute’s blood cancer research will be highlighted at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting, Dec. 7 – 10 in San Diego.
School leaders say that the presentation of five research posters showcasing groundbreaking research in blood cancers demonstrates the Institute’s commitment to advancing innovative therapies and showcases its progress toward attaining National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation.
“This achievement underscores the dedication and expertise of our fellows and faculty,” said Lauren Veltri, M.D., associate professor of medical oncology and division chief of Hematologic Malignancies, TCT and Classical Hematology at the WVU Cancer Institute. “Each presentation represents a step forward in understanding and treating blood cancers, which is vital not only for the patients we serve but for our ultimate goal of achieving NCI designation.”
Dr. Veltri’s team has focused on advancing treatments and improving outcomes for patients with blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma.
“The WVU Cancer Institute’s dedication to rigorous scientific inquiry and impactful clinical care reflects its position as a leader in cancer research and treatment within Appalachia and beyond,” Veltri said.
With these presentations, the Cancer Institute continues demonstrating its capacity to contribute meaningfully to national and international research communities. This growing recognition among peers in the hematology and oncology fields is pivotal as the WVU Cancer Institute works toward NCI designation. This landmark achievement will enhance research funding and clinical resources and ultimately improve access to advanced cancer care for patients throughout West Virginia.
