Clinical Experience

The focus of the Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship at WVU is to develop clinical expertise in regional anesthesia and acute pain management.

Fellows will develop technical proficiency in upper and lower extremity peripheral nerve and nerve plexus blocks, continuous catheter techniques, paravertebral techniques, TAP blocks, and central neuraxial techniques (including thoracic epidurals and combined spinal-epidurals). The fellowship focuses on both conventional, landmark-based approaches, and ultrasound-guided techniques. In addition to the technical aspects learned from performing regional blocks, fellows become proficient in the perioperative management of patients undergoing regional anesthesia, including preoperative evaluation, procedure-related sedation, intraoperative management, and postoperative care.

The Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship offers diverse training in all aspects of regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine and prepares trainees to be leaders in an academic or private practice career.
