Education and Training

West Virginia University Emergency Medicine Division of Education and Training

The Division of Education and Training supports and guides the development and implementation of all educational programs in the WVU Department of Emergency Medicine. We seek to provide guidance, development and mentorship to faculty and learners in order to develop innovative, evidence based educational programs that help learners from all backgrounds thrive in emergency medicine.

The division provides oversight and support for the emergency medicine student clerkships, emergency medicine residency program, fellowship programs and the emergency medicine faculty development program. The division works to ensure that program leaders and faculty have the appropriate tools and training in the areas of curriculum development, evaluation and assessment, bedside teaching, accreditation requirements, remediation of learners having difficulty and educational research.

Mission and Goals

  1. Provide students, residents, and fellows the opportunity to learn in inclusive, welcoming, high-quality educational programs that are among the best nationally in emergency medicine.
  2. Develop and support educational leadership faculty as they develop cutting-edge educational programs.
  3. Create curricula across the spectrum of educational offerings that ensure engaging and active learning for all participants.
  4. Ensure that graduates of all of our educational programs are highly qualified for board certification post training.
  5. Ensure that all educational programs within the division are fully accredited by their respective organizations, while pushing our programs to new heights via cutting edge, innovative educational strategies and program design.
