This is a section of lightly keratinized skin.
Keratinization protects the underlying epidermis. This section is most likely taken from an area of the body that needs minimal protection, such as the shoulders, arms or legs.
This is a section of highly keratinized skin most likely taken from an area of the body requiring much more protection, such as the soles of the feet or fingertips.
These large cells are neurons of the central nervous system. They have a large nucleus with a prominent nucleolus. The purple "dots" are called Nissl bodies which are aggregations of rough endoplasmic reticulum.
This is a section of the area of the brain called the substantia nigra. The name is derived from the neuromelanin (brown) pigment found in the cytoplasm of the neurons which increases with age.
This is a section of lung, more specifically the bronchi. The respiratory tract is covered by a specialized type of ciliated epithelium. The cilia help expel foreign materials that we breath in.
This is a section of thyroid. The thyroid follicles contain colloid, which is stored inactive thyroid hormones.
This is a special stain demonstrating fungal hyphae in a tissue sample. The hyphae are stained black.
This is a longitudinal section of Aspergillus niger demonstrated with a special stain. The tissue sample was taken from a patient's eye socket.
