Berkeley Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency
The WVU School of Medicine Berkeley Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program is the first GME-accredited residency program hosted at WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center, located in Martinsburg on the WVU School of Medicine's Eastern Campus.
The Eastern Campus, located in West Virginia's eastern panhandle and close to the DC metropolitan area, is home to 120+ faculty members and the 200-bed Berkeley Medical Center, which also houses a 24-bed ICU and a high-volume ED.
Berkeley Medical Center is a verified Level III Trauma Center, committed to delivering high-quality, comprehensive trauma care to patients in the Eastern Panhandle and the surrounding region. As a Level III Trauma Center, Berkeley Medical Center is equipped to provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, surgery, intensive care and stabilization of injured patients.
Other clinical services available on the Eastern Campus include Jefferson Medical Center in Ranson, W.Va.; regional care centers for the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, Heart and Vascular Institute and Cancer Institute; and 30 additional clinics across three counties.
Beginning with our inaugural class in July 2025, six residents per year will learn the fundamental skills of internal medicine under the guidance of our caring faculty, who will cover the full range of general medicine and medical subspecialties throughout our three-year curriculum. Our residency also features four unique signature programs, each designed to address major health issues in West Virginia and the surrounding region.
The program offers a full complement of internal medicine specialty practices. We are excited to teach and mentor residents as they develop into world-class internal medicine doctors, preparing them for careers in hospital medicine, primary care, and specialty training, all in an inclusive and welcoming learning environment.
Mountaineers know West Virginia University is special.
The Internal Medicine Residency Program at WVU’s Eastern Campus is housed in Martinsburg and serves the eastern panhandle of West Virginia as well as the surrounding states and region. The program is aimed at addressing major health challenges in Appalachia and beyond.

“Being a member of the inaugural class means we get to be a part of something from the very beginning and help build it from the ground up. Our voices take on an added importance as we provide feedback to help shape the program for future residents over the years to come.”
