Didactics

  1. WVU Tropical Medicine Course: online and asynchronous course that fellows will complete over the year. There are 4 modules total with required reflections/surveys after each lecture and a final quiz after each module. PD/faculty who are module leaders will be responsible for monitoring the completion of assignments. The modules include:
    • Didactic lectures, seminars, and small-group discussions in infectious diseases and tropical medicine, and tropical public health [240 hours]
    • Laboratory demonstrations and practicums in microbiology (e.g., bacteriology, parasitology, mycology, mycobacteriology, virology), hematology, dermatology, surgery, radiology, primary health care techniques, and computers [52 hours]
    • Flexible, supervised, educational training modules in international travel medicine, computer modeling in epidemiologic field methods (e.g., EPI info, biostatistics, etc.), and infectious diseases and parasitology case studies (both slide- and video-based) [9 hours]
  2. Monthly Global Health Lecture: multidisciplinary lecture series that meets the 4th Tuesday of every month from 6:30p-8:30p (sometimes moved to the third week for holiday weeks) that involves faculty and residents from internal medicine, OB/GYN, neurology, and emergency medicine. Fellows will be required to give two lectures during the year as well as actively participate in discussions at the other lectures. Sign-in and evaluations will be conducted after each lecture. Will not be required to attend while overseas.
  3. Monthly Global Health Journal Club that will be held each month (timing to be determined based on fellow’s schedule/global health site/time zone) that will include fellows, faculty, and any interested residents or students. The fellow will lead the journal club each month with the assistance of one of the faculty members, Program Director included.
  4. Quarterly M & M will be held every quarter and led by the global health fellow. Participants will include PD, faculty, and CFHI partners (if available) as well as interested global health track residents/students.
