Message from the Division Chief

PellegrinoIn our quest to be a recognized leader of chronic kidney disease care in the rural setting, we strive to provide state-of-the-art kidney disease management to West Virginians across the north central part of the state and beyond.

Our extensive rural network includes 12 outreach clinics, 12 dialysis units and four telemedicine clinics where we see significant numbers of patients from rural West Virginia who live distant to specialty medical care.

As the sole academic nephrology group in the area, we are heavily involved in all levels of kidney care at three hospitals, including our flagship hospital of WVU Medicine—J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. It’s here we provide the bulk of tertiary and quaternary care to patients in the state.

We also offer specialty clinics in metabolic stone disease, hypertension, and kidney transplant as well as care across the continuum of chronic kidney disease from early to late, including the transition to dialysis or transplantation.

We are leaders in home dialysis care. Our longstanding fellowship program has bolstered the nephrology workforce throughout the state, while we continue to grow and diversify in faculty numbers and advanced practice providers who work in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Service to the state—through patient care, nephrology training, provider collaboration and scholarship—is and will always be our highest priority.

Sincerely,

Bethany Pellegrino, M.D.
