Resident Achievements

West Virginia University, Department of Neurology program encourages scholarly activity during the 4 years of residency training. Residents are encouraged to present posters/papers at local/regional/national meetings.

The Department of Neurology is currently part of around 15 multi-center clinical trials involving Neuroimmunology, Headache Medicine, Vascular Neurology, Neuro trauma/critical care, Neuromuscular disorders, and Epilepsy. We are also part of several innovative multidisciplinary clinical trials as part of the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute. As part of one such clinical trial, our team at the RNI was the first in the country to successfully open the BBB using focused ultrasound, in a patient with mild Alzheimer's disease.

In addition to above, our faculty, residents, and students are involved in several research studies, ranging from retrospective chart reviews to prospective cohort studies across various neurological disciplines. At the beginning of PGY 2, residents are encouraged to participate in an ongoing research study or design their own research study which can be completed over the course of their training. Research mentorship is provided throughout their projects. All graduating residents present their work during the months of May and June prior to graduation.
