The HealthNet helicopter, a component of WVU Medical Command (MedCom) at Ruby Memorial Hospital, soars through the blue sky on its return from a recent mission.

The HealthNet helicopter delivered 982 patients to Ruby Memorial in 2015, roughly 19 per week.

WVU MedCom serves as a regional coordination and communication center for all pre-hospital emergency care, including the HealthNet helicopter and other aircraft, which bring patients to a rooftop helipad. It provides pre-hospital teaching; guidance of emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and flight teams; collaboration with surgical subspecialists; and co-management of cases with the surgical intensive care unit.

WVU MedCom is one of five regional medical command centers, all of which are part of the statewide West Virginia Medical Command System.
