Perinatal Transport Conferences:
A joint endeavor of WVU Children’s Hospital, WVU Department of Pediatrics, and WVU Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Each of WVU’s referral hospitals is visited by WVU perinatal staff at least once or twice a year for a Perinatal Transport Conference. These are multidiscipline case management conferences where the care of specific mothers and/or babies who were transported to WVU from the particular hospital is discussed. Transport statistics from the individual hospital are also discussed.
WVU staff attending Perinatal Transport Conferences include a perinatologist, a neonatologist, the nurse outreach coordinator, and usually a neonatal transport nurse practitioner.
Continuing education credit from WVU is available for physicians and nurses attending the perinatal transport conferences.
Continuing Medical Education Objectives for Perinatal Transport Conferences
Following this conference, participants should be able to
- Understand WVU's management of complicated obstetrical and neonatal patients.
- Determine appropriate situations which warrant transportation/referral of obstetrical and neonatal patients.
- Communicate more efficiently and effectively with the perinatal health professionals at WVU.
The West Virginia University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. The WVU Office of CME designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.5 credit hours in Category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity. In accordance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education requirements on disclosure, information about relationships of presenters with commercial interests (if any) will be included in materials distributed at the time of the conference.
