Meet Our Residents

As a new program, we are incredibly excited to welcome our inaugural class of residents in July 2025. This section of our website is reserved for them—the pioneers who will help us in building the future of PM&R in West Virginia.

Ellen Hoover

Hey y’all, I’m Elle Hoover, I just relocated here from Southwest Virginia. I attended Virginia Tech for undergrad and studied Biological Systems Engineering. I attended Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school.

My clinical interests are rural physiatry, cancer rehab, and sports medicine.

My personal interests include yoga and working out, any and all outdoor activities, painting and ceramics, plants and gardening.
A fun fact about me is my mom is one of thirteen kids. Because my family is so large we grew up having Thanksgiving dinner in a school gymnasium.

From first impressions to final looks WVU’s PM&R program never ceased to amaze. From state-of-the-art research and technology at Rockefeller Neuroscience institute, to the wonderful faculty and staff creating the department, every aspect of physiatry here creates the ideal place to grow as physicians. I’m honored to continue my training in this Appalachian community that I call home.

Scott Suddarth

Scott Suddart

I originally grew up in rural Arizona, where I stayed for my undergraduate degree. I attended St. George's University for medical school, training around the Miami area before rotating through my fourth year in Brooklyn. While there's a lot I enjoy about general physiatry, I am also considering pursuing interventional pain & spine, sports medicine and neuro rehab. Outside of medicine, I like to spend my time learning about history, being in the great outdoors or with animals, cooking, and some survivalism.

Why WVU?

Ruby hospital hit a sweet spot for me: providing robust and state of the art training while also serving rural communities. There's a clear vision for the residency program, and passion for physiatry itself, by everyone here. The people are genuine, the curriculum is strong, and a great feeling after the interview made this an easy decision for me.
