Pathways to Success: Career Development and Alumni
Our ultimate goal is to prepare residents for successful and fulfilling careers as leaders in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. From the moment a resident joins our program, we provide robust mentorship and career advising to help them achieve their individual goals, whether they aspire to a competitive fellowship, a career in academic medicine, or a leadership role in private practice.
Individualized Mentorship for Career Planning: Each resident is paired with a faculty advisor who serves as a dedicated mentor for career development. This mentor helps the resident explore different subspecialties, navigate the fellowship application process, and connect with leaders in their chosen field. Our faculty's diverse career paths and national connections provide residents with invaluable guidance and networking opportunities.
Building a Competitive Portfolio: We provide numerous opportunities for residents to build a curriculum vitae that will make them competitive for any career path. This includes support for scholarly projects and presentations at national meetings, opportunities to teach and mentor medical students, and participation in departmental and hospital-wide quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Launching the Inaugural Alumni Network: The first classes of our residency program have the unique opportunity to become the foundational members of the WVU PM&R alumni network. This will be a tight-knit and supportive group of pioneers who will go on to practice across the country in a variety of settings. We are committed to fostering a lifelong connection with our graduates and building a powerful network that will benefit our residents for decades to come. Our expectation is that our graduates will be highly sought after, following the trajectory of alumni from other top programs who successfully match into premier fellowships and obtain desirable attending positions nationwide.
