Training Site

Urology residents receive their core surgical training at West Virginia University Hospitals (WVUH), a 690-bed Level I trauma center that serves as the flagship of the WVU Medicine system. The clinical volume is robust, with extensive exposure to all aspects of urologic oncology, complex reconstruction, endourology, and emergency urologic care. Outpatient clinics are housed in the adjacent Physicians Office Center, and residents benefit from training on one of the nation’s most comprehensive robotic surgery fleets, including Xi, SP, and DV5 platforms. Resident education and operative development at WVUH are guided by Dr. Steven Campbell, Professor and Chairman, and Dr. Ali Hajiran, Associate Professor and Urology Residency Program Director.

Residents also receive dedicated pediatric urology training at WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital, where they care for a high-volume, high-acuity pediatric population in a modern, family-centered environment. As West Virginia’s largest network for children, adolescents, and expectant mothers—and the state’s top-ranked children’s hospital by U.S. News & World Report for the third consecutive year—this site provides unparalleled exposure. Pediatric Urology and Pediatric Neurology/Neurosurgery are nationally ranked top-50 programs, giving trainees direct access to expert faculty and advanced multidisciplinary care. The nine-story, 150-bed Children’s Hospital, along with NCQA-recognized outpatient practices and centers of excellence including the Birthing Center, Blood Disorders & Cancer Center, and Heart Center, ensures residents train in a state-of-the-art setting while delivering compassionate care to families across West Virginia and the surrounding region.
