  2. Graduation from an accredited American Medical School; or, for international medical school graduates, a current ECFMG certificate and appropriate J-1 visa status
  3. Certified medical school transcript
  4. Personal statement
  5. Three letters of recommendation
  6. Dean's letter
  7. United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Scores
  8. Completion of USMLE Step 3 by the end of PGY 2

Medical Students

We participate in the Visiting Student Learning Opportunity (VSLO) system. Because the timing of opening rotations and applications is variable, we strongly recommend that you contact us directly if you are interested in a sub-internship with us. This will allow us to make sure that we can accommodate as many visiting students as possible during the summer and fall. Medical students interested in rotating neurosurgery are also encouraged to contact us directly to facilitate their 4th year rotations. 

Residency Applications

WVU is an ACGME accredited neurosurgery residency. We accept 2 incoming residents per year. We participate in the National Residency Match Program (NRMP, The Match) along with all other neurosurgery programs.

Fellowship Applications

We currently participates in three Committee on Advanced Subspecialty Training (CAST) fellowship programs: Neurocritical care, Stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, and endovascular neurosurgery. There is no formal match process for these fellowships. Applicants who are interested in any of our fellowship programs are encouraged to contact us directly. Preference will be given to graduates of US residency programs. Exceptional international graduates will be considered.
