25 Years of Emergency Medicine

On June 17, 2017, the Department of Emergency Medicine celebrated its 25th anniversary at the WVU Art Museum with special recognition given to those who helped establish the department in 1992.

There were several guests of honor who were acknowledged for their efforts in creating what is now a powerhouse department that sees more than 50,000 patients each year.

Six of the honorees were recognized with a portrait that will be prominently displayed in the WVU Health Sciences Center. Those honorees were Dr. Rick Blum, Dr. William Ramsey, Dr. Todd Crocco, Dr. Ann Chinnis, Dr. John Prescott and the late Dr. Stephen Rector.

Other key founding faculty and staff were also honored at the event with a plaque to also be displayed in the WVU Health Sciences Center, or commemorative brick that they could take home with them after the event.

This Founder’s Day allowed the Department of Emergency Medicine to pay tribute to key leaders and innovators in the field of emergency medicine here at WVU. We are extremely proud of all of the staff, faculty and physicians that played an integral role in creating the academic program, and for taking part in providing quality care for thousands of West Virginians each year.
