Berry recognized by Addiction Policy Forum

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – James Berry, D.O., director of addiction services at the WVU Medicine Chestnut Ridge Center and interim chair of the WVU Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry, has been recognized by the Addiction Policy Forum with the West Virginia Innovation Now Award for his and his colleagues’ work in expanding access to medication assisted treatment for addiction. One such innovation is replicating their successful Comprehensive Opioid Addiction Treatment model via telemedicine.  

“Telemedicine allows our patients with opioid use disorder to receive care despite their distance from our facilities in Morgantown,” Dr. Berry said. “We are able to work with them to provide the same group counseling and medication assisted treatment they would receive in person with the same level of success.”

The Addiction Policy Forum is a nationwide nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating addiction as a major health problem. A project of Addiction Policy Forum, West Virginia Innovation Now showcases programs and interventions from every sector that are actively transforming the field of addiction across the nation.

“This award isn’t only a recognition of my work in substance use disorder treatment but of our entire team that works with our patients to provide the opportunity and resources they need to recover from their addiction,” Berry said.
