Butina appointed to International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science Scientific Network of Experts

Michelle Butina, Ph.D., associate professor, vice-chair, and program director of the Division of Medical Laboratory Science,  has been appointed to the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IFBLS) Scientific Network of Experts.

The IFBLS Scientific Network of Experts develops position statements, documents, and completes other numerous tasks for the World Health Organization, specifically focused in biomedical laboratory science. The group works to assist in document review or projects, ultimately benefiting the development of laboratory medicine and the profession overall.

In addition to being appointed to the IFBLS Scientific Network of Experts, Butina has also been appointed to the Hematology Advisory Group, which is a new group within the IFBLS.

The new group within the Scientific Network of Experts has been given three objectives: respond to any WHO requesting for documents or tasks related to hematology, submit articles and act as peer reviewers/editors for the International Journal of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IJBLS), and to create professional development modules to narrow the focus of global health issues.

“My hope is to successfully meet the three goals outlined within my 2-year term as chair,” Butina said. “Medical laboratory science is an incredibly rewarding field of study; our role in the diagnosis and care of patients in medicine is vital.”
