Dr. Muhammad Alvi receives national Faculty Leadership Award

Muhammad “Mud” Alvi, M.D., vice chair of faculty affairs in the West Virginia University Department
of Neurology
and medical director of the WVU Stroke Center, has received the national Faculty
Leadership Award from the Association of University Professors of Neurology (AUPN).

The award recognizes Dr. Alvi’s leadership, innovation and significant contributions to the field of
neurology.

“This recognition is deeply meaningful and I truly appreciate support and confidence in my work,
from my colleagues and peers. This highlights the great work happening in our department,” Alvi said.

Ahead of the conference in an interview with NeurologyLive, Alvi identified the current challenges
facing academic neurology departments and the increasing importance vice chairs play in advancing the departmental goals as those roles evolve from a historically advisory capacity.

The 2025 AUPN Annual Meeting was held on Sept. 13 in Baltimore, Maryland. As the organization’s
premiere event, academic leaders from nuerology programs across the nation gather to explore and build effective strategies for addressing the field’s ongoing challenges.

Founded in 1967, the AUPN was organized to advance and strengthen the academic Neurology community through education, mentorship and the sharing of best practices among leaders in academic neurology.
