FSAP to host virtual Mental Health First Aid training

The WVU Faculty and Staff Assistance Program will offer two virtual Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) certification opportunities this summer. MHFA helps individuals assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis until professional help is available or the crisis is resolved.

Attendees must complete a two-hour, self-guided training prior to participating in the instructor-led training, which will take place virtually from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on either Tuesday, May 6, or Wednesday, June 11.

What to Expect to learn:

  • Risk factors and warning signs for mental health

  • Addiction concerns

  • Strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations

  • Where to turn for additional support

The training opportunity is open to all community members. The cost of attendance is $40. WVU faculty or students will receive a discounted rate of $25. WVU employees are encouraged to check with their department for attendance sponsorship.
