Health Informatics and Information Management professor named WVHIMA distinguished member

The West Virginia Health Information Management Association has named Megan McDougal, an assistant professor in the West Virginia University School of Medicine’s Health Informatics and Information Management program, as the 2021 distinguished member.

Every year, the organization recognizes only one member as the distinguished member for outstanding service.

“The WVHIMA Distinguished Member award is the highest honor a WVHIMA Member can achieve. To even be nominated for this award is such an honor, and to be named among the many great distinguished members who came before me is indescribable,” said McDougal. “It's been a great privilege to serve the HIM profession throughout my career, and I owe so much gratitude back to WVHIMA and the many mentors I have been fortunate to work with.”

The nominations are tallied by a points system and the person nominated that receives the most points becomes the WVHIMA Distinguished Member for the year. A member can only receive the distinguished member award once in their lifetime.

To be eligible for nomination, the candidates must have made an outstanding contribution to the WVHIMA and profession in more than one of the following areas:

• Service to WVHIMA Members
• Outstanding achievement in professional practice
• Contributions in research or published materials
• Leadership in education
