Sedney named first chief wellness officer

Cara Sedney, M.D., associate professor in the Department of Neurosurgery, has been appointed the first West Virginia University Hospitals chief wellness officer. She became interested in physician wellness in her work as the Neurosurgery Residency Director.

In her new role she will focus on wellness efforts for attending physicians and physicians in training. The chief wellness officer is charged with promoting physician professional fulfillment through efforts to develop and maintain a culture of wellness, to improve the efficiency of practice and to promote resilience.

Dr. Sedney is an AOA graduate of the WVU School of Medicine and completed her residency in neurosurgery and fellowship in spinal surgery here as well. In addition, she holds a Master of Arts in Bioethics and Health Policy from Loyola University. She will phase into her new role over the next few months.
