Training for ED Staff Held at Uniontown Hospital
Michelle Angeline, MD, Emergency Medicine, WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital, led a training session for some nursing staff in the Emergency Department (ED) on Tuesday (Oct. 4).
The training included a 30-minute classroom session with a PowerPoint presentation on basic trauma education, including trauma assessment, goals, care and management in the ED, and how to resuscitate and stabilize patients. Dr. Angeline reviewed types of traumas, including thoracic, abdominal, and spinal, and then conducted hands-on training.
The one-hour immersive training included three different trauma scenarios, and staff members were required to manage trauma patients beginning from the waiting room and/or EMS arrival. This included assessing and stabilizing, airway management, chest tube placement, arterial line placement and management, central line placement, administering blood with level 1 infuser, and other aspects of emergency trauma care.
