WVU Charleston Campus Hosts Fifth Annual CAMC Breast Health Conference
West Virginia University Health Sciences Charleston Campus and Charleston Area Medical Center hosted the fifth annual CAMC Breast Health Conference this month at the WVU Charleston auditorium.
Sponsored by the Breast Center at Charleston Area Medical Center, the CAMC Institute and West Virginia University Health Sciences Charleston Campus, the March, 2018 conference focused on the most current topics affecting the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases, aiming to provide the audience with information that updates and describes the current and future care of breast disorders. This educational experience provided the participants with elements relevant to their daily practice, intended to assist them in recognizing the alternatives of diagnosis and therapy available now and in the near future.
The program included discussions on genetics, radiology issues, breast imaging, grafting and nerve regeneration, innovations in diagnosis and pathology, and immunotherapy. In addition, the expert panel participated in an interactive session of questions and answers open to the audience. The event drew a great number of area surgeons, gynecologists, family practitioners, internists, residents, medical students, nurses, nuclear medicine personnel, and radiology and ultrasonography technologists.
Roberto Kusminsky, MD, FACS, MHP, medical director and conference chair, said that the conference is an important event in helping practitioners to discuss the future of breast imaging, and to learn from others in the field.
Conference objectives included enumeration of specific genetic risks beyond BRCA testing, modern techniques for breast reconstruction, recognition of future markers for breast cancer, new concepts about inflammatory breast cancer, and advances in immunotherapy for breast cancer.
