WVUCIPM participates in inaugural comprehensive pain management symposium

Representatives from the West Virginia University Center for Integrative Pain Management recently presented at the Alliance to Advance Comprehensive Integrative Pain Management’s first Pain Policy Congress.

Those who presented from WVU included Richard Vaglienti, M.D., medical director for the WVU Medicine Pain Clinic and clinical faculty in the WVU School of Medicine’s Department of Anesthesiology; Clay Marsh, M.D., vice president and executive dean for WVU Health Sciences; and Julianne Speeney from WVU Medicine.

The event’s aim is to bring together thought leaders and decision makers to make consensus recommendations and educational materials to address access to consistent quality comprehensive care in pain management.

According to Vaglienti, the opportunity to outline how things are set up at WVU has led to meaningful interactions from other hospitals and health centers who want to set up a similar prototype.

“This group views WVU as a successful example in collaborating to provide high levels of care to our patients, including how we connect with patients through telemedicine and Julianne Speeney’s use of corrective exercise as part of the approach,” he said. “We’re excited to not only serve as an example, but also refine our practice with input and inspiration from peers.”
