Two surgeons performing procedure

Heart failure is one of the leading heart-related reasons for hospital admission and readmission in West Virginia. Although heart failure is a serious condition that progressively gets worse over time, certain cases can be reversed with treatment. The Advanced Heart Failure Program is West Virginia’s first and only multidisciplinary heart failure team specializing in advanced therapies including mechanical support and heart transplantation.

Our team comprises pharmacists, specialty-trained nurses, exercise physiologists, social workers, dietitians, and expert physician team members, who go above and beyond to bring the highest quality and most comprehensive care to patients across the region.

Example procedures and areas of learning fellows can expect to encounter during our fellowship include:

  • Enhanced access to advanced therapeutics in clinical trials
  • Temporary mechanical circulatory support for the treatment of cardiogenic shock
  • Durable left ventricular assist device (LVAD) mechanical circulatory support
  • Remote pulmonary artery sensor, pacemaker, and defibrillator monitoring
  • Cardiac amyloidosis and cardiac sarcoidosis therapy
  • Advanced Pulmonary Hypertension Program
  • Home infusions of inotropic therapy
  • Heart transplantation
