Vascular Surgery Fellowship

It is our pleasure to welcome you to our site and for considering WVU as your Vascular and Endovascular fellowship.  Our program has received full ACGME accreditation and is a University-based two-year program.

The entire faculty is fully committed to making our program one of the best training opportunities for both open and endovascular interventions while maximizing quality of life and a pleasant work environment.  Our fellowship places emphasis on developing sound surgical judgment and technical skills that will make you an efficient surgeon, and more importantly, provide you with the foundation necessary to become the best surgeon you can be.  Our broad referral base as a quaternary referral center assures ample exposure to both simple and complex traditional and endovascular procedures.

As a fellow your will participate in the diagnosis, perioperative, and operative care of patients on the fellow’s service with the help of junior general surgery residents and physician assistants.  In addition you will have important academic responsibilities which include preparing for our weekly conferences, teaching general surgery residents and medical students, as well as participate in various research opportunities.  You will have access to an online preparatory course for the RPVI exam complementing our monthly non-invasive vascular laboratory conference and weekly supervised vascular lab reading time that will fulfill the requirements for the RPVI certification.

The West Virginia University Health Science Center Campus is an ideal place to consider as your training ground.  In 2017, we opened the West Virginia University Heart and Vascular Institute, a 176 bed facility with 3 Cath labs, 3 hybrid rooms, 1 Electrophysiology lab, and 3 operating rooms.  All facilities are located within a single independent building and also include patient wards, intensive care units, office space, conference rooms, and a library.

I sincerely hope that you will consider WVU for your vascular fellowship training and wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Pamela Zimmerman, MD, Chief of Vascular Surgery
