Rotations

Cardiac Surgery

Four months spent in the subspecialty of cardiac surgery. Fellows will develop their skills of intra-operative management of cardiac surgery patients. Fellows will learn how to procure conduit for coronary artery bypass, first assist in robotic aortic/mitral valve replacement, first assist with sternotomy and chest closure. Fellows will also participate in daily inpatient rounds and outpatient clinics to develop comprehensive evaluation of cardiac surgery patients.

Thoracic Surgery

Four months spent in the subspecialty of thoracic surgery. Fellows will develop their skills of intra-operative management of thoracic surgery patients. Fellows will learn how to first assist robotic assisted lung resections, esophagectomies, foregut surgery, diaphragmatic repairs, chest wall surgery and tracheal resection and reconstruction. Fellows will also participate in daily inpatient rounds and outpatient clinics to develop comprehensive evaluation of thoracic surgery patients.

Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit

One month spent caring for critically ill patients that require cardiothoracic surgery procedures. Fellows will learn to understand ventilator support, ECMO, vasopressor medication support. Fellows will also learn invasive procedures including arterial line placement, central venous access, ECMO canulation, chest tube placement, and intubation.

Mini Rotations

Cardiology

One month spent developing interventional cardiology procedures including echocardiogram, pacemaker placement, cardiac catheterization. 

Congenital Cardiac Surgery

One month spent developing a foundation in congenital cardiac medicine. Fellows will first assist in the operative room while also participating in daily inpatient rounds in the NICU/PICU and outpatient clinics for pre-operative and post-operative evaluation.

Elective Rotation

One month spent on the fellow's choice.
