Angela Cherry, MD, MBA, FAAFP

Dr. Angela Cherry is from Clarksburg, WV. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from West Virginia University. In 2002 she obtained her Medical Degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine. In 2006 she completed the WVU Rural Family Medicine Residency Program at Harpers Ferry, WV. In 2007 she completed a Maternal Child Health Fellowship at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, IL. Upon completion of fellowship she returned to the Eastern Panhandle of WV to serve as a Family Medicine faculty member. She has been teaching medical students and residents for over 15 years while practicing full spectrum family medicine. She has had the pleasure to deliver hundreds of babies in the eastern panhandle. She has also been afforded the opportunity to participate in medical mission trips to Rwanda, Guatemala, and Fiji. In 2016 her mid career achievements were recognized when she received the WISH (Women in Science and Health) award from WVU School of Medicine. In 2017 she received a Masters in Business Administration from the WVU School of Business. In 2020 she was appointed as the WVU Rural Family Medicine Residency Director.
When not traveling the world, Dr. Cherry enjoys relaxing with her husband, Wade and two dogs Rocky and Rocket. She enjoys being creative while actively drawing and painting with oil pastels, acrylics, and pencils. She is an avid card maker and scrapbooker with Stampin’ Up!
Aaron McLaughlin, MD
Associate Program Director
Aaron McLaughlin, M.D., grew up in Martinsburg, WV, just 30 minutes away from our primary practice site. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from West Virginia University with his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2008. In 2011, he completed his residency with the WVU Rural Family Medicine Residency Program in Harpers Ferry. He joined the Family Medicine faculty in 2011 and discovered his passion for teaching and mentoring learners in medicine. He completed the National Institute for Program Director Development (NIPDD) program and became the Associate Program Director in 2020. In his role as APD, he recently spearheaded a yearlong project to restructure the resident didactic curriculum, and actively mentors and advises residents during their training and after graduation.
He also serves as the Director of Simulation for the Eastern Campus. He develops simulation scenarios for both graduate and undergraduate medical learners in the robust simulation center on the Eastern Campus fulfilling every child’s lifelong dream of playing with expensive robots.
Dr. McLaughlin became a certified Medical Review Officer in 2011 and served as MRO for the Eastern Campus from 2011 through 2019.
He has presented at regional and national conferences on such topics as: group medical visits, Medicare Annual Wellness visits, ultrasound curriculum development, improving faculty feedback, time-efficient clinical teaching and opioid treatment curriculum for residents.
McLaughlin enjoys running with his wife and they have completed numerous half-marathons and two marathons (not coming anywhere close to qualifying for Boston). He has two boys who keep him active at home and a 185-lb Italian mastiff that loves bacon and peanut butter.
