Curriculum
Family Medicine Residency Programs strive to create an educational experience that prepare residents to be competent family physicians capable of providing comprehensive and coordinated care to a broad range of patients and families. At West Virginia University School of Medicine (WVUSOM), we strive to take this experience a step further. It is our mission to have the most efficiently managed, successful, and respected residency in our region for the benefit of our rural population.
The WVU Family Medicine Residency Program offers the following three-year training curriculum to physicians committed to the specialty of family medicine.
Additionally, the program offers specialized learning tracks that provide residents the opportunity to develop specific skills in focus areas, or “tracks”, to be cultivated longitudinally during each year of training. Tracks will not only allow residents to become experts in each learning area, but also create a more competitive landscape for residents after graduation for employment or if they desire to pursue fellowship opportunities. Theses specialty tracks include:
- Addiction Medicine
- Academic Medicine
- Geriatrics
- Maternal Child Care
- Ultrasound
- Sports Medicine
