Community Family Practice
You will spend one block rotating with a family medicine practice within the community setting. Some commonly chosen sites include a family medicine clinic with a prominent pediatric population located in Western Monongalia County, a women’s health and pediatric care focused clinic located in rural Southern West Virginia, a traditional practice with hospital and ambulatory based family medicine located in Kingwood, WV, and a rural outpatient healthcare clinic located in the highland region of Randolph County, WV. This rotation exposes you to the health problems of a unique population, introduces the community’s influence on the health of patients, familiarizes residents with the challenges of integrating into a community setting and practicing with potentially limited resources, teaches you about the business aspects of a medical practice, and demonstrates how practicing physicians integrate their lives into the community in which they work.
