Medical Intensive Care Unit
The MICU rotation is a one-block inpatient experience that takes place at WVU Medicine’s Ruby Memorial Hospital. This academic medical center is a tertiary referral and primary stroke center. You will be incorporated into a team consisting of staff physicians, critical care fellows (internal medicine, emergency medicine, anesthesia, and neurology residents), respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and residents from the list above.
This MICU block will build upon the PGY1 MICU experience where residents are exposed to the measurement of ventilator and circulatory parameters, ventilator use and management, insertion of hemodynamic catheters and interpretation of hemodynamic data, use of vasoactive drugs and nutrition in critically ill patients, emergent bedside procedures, and management of complex fluid electrolyte balance in critically ill patients. In addition, you will provide oversite assistance to the critical care fellow and staff physicians for interns and medical students.
